Caregiver Program: Communities Prepared for Re-Entry
Empowering the women who hold families together.
The Caregivers Program supports women and girls who carry the weight of community harm and incarceration, especially mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and caregivers of children who have caused harm in the community. Too often overwhelmed, under-informed, and unsupported, caregivers face major challenges during their loved one’s re-entry home.
Built on the foundation of our Six-Part Healing Series and guided by the Principles of Trauma-Informed Equitable Care, The Caregivers Program uses a Theory of Change-based logic model to empower caregivers both emotionally and practically.
What the Program Offers
- A supportive, non-judgmental space for women to process trauma and stigma
- Tools and guidance to navigate re-entry and rebuild family stability
- Mentorship through a 8 – 10 week mentor/mentee model
- Education on the systems and inequities that shape caregivers’ experiences
- Strategies for emotional well-being and self-care
- Community-building among caregivers with shared experiences
The Caregivers Program uplifts what we call the “Silent Survivors”, caregivers who have endured harm, stigma, and heartbreak, yet fight every day to stabilize their families. The program strengthens their capacity to support their loved ones while also healing themselves.
Core Outcomes
- Increased resilience and confidence
- Clearer re-entry plans
- Stronger family communication
- Recognition of caregivers’ own trauma and healing needs
- Community and peer support that continues beyond the program
Grounded in WAB2G’s principles and mission, Caregivers Program empowers caregivers to thrive, not just survive, as they support their families through one of the most vulnerable chapters of their lives.
